We’ve got one more staff profile before we bid farewell to this section of the newsletter, and that’s newsletter editor himself, Alex MacDonald. Alex took a circuitous route into social media, initially studying as a lawyer, going on to pass the NZ bar before realising the reality of being a lawyer is nothing like Boston Legal (they don’t tell you that part in law school) and ditching the robes for new adventures. He then attended drama school, appearing in a handful of television and theatre productions, before parlaying a love of the written word into a copywriting role. This led him to Easy Social Media, where he’s spent three very happy years now.
Sometimes the path we follow in life isn’t the one we first set out to take, and yet it’s exactly where we’re supposed to be. Here’s what he had to say:
What would you be if you could be anything (aside from a social media wizard, of course!)?
I’d write and direct independent films, then use the power of social media to find an audience!
What would your chosen superpower be?
Either time travel (both to amass a fortune in early Apple stock by travelling back and to see what life on earth might be like in a few hundred years by travelling forward) or instant transmission (for the travel).
Would you rather battle one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
Anything that can fly is instantly more fearsome than any land-based threat. Bring on the horses.
Serious question – pineapple on a pizza, yes or no?
Absolutely — listen to your inner child, pineapple on a pizza is delicious.
Lastly, what’s your favourite meme?
This shot from arguably the greatest sitcom of the past 20 years, The Office (yes, the American one). Works for every negative reaction ever.
